Resisting Fear: The Role of Problem-Solving Appraisals in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Depression

The COVID-19 pandemic represented a global public health emergency and was associated with adverse mental outcomes. Individual differences in response to traumatic stressors can be attributed subjective cognitive appraisals. current study investigated the role of problem-solving appraisals association between COVID-19-related fear Participants were university students (N = 322). They completed web-based survey comprising Center for Epidemiological Studies depression scale, inventory, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) checklist, satisfaction life scale. Correlational analysis revealed that heightened related greater PTSD depressive symptoms lower satisfaction. Self-appraised ineffective higher levels Problem-solving appraisal moderated relationship COVID-19, satisfaction, PTSD, depression, respectively. findings suggest are protective resource have potential promote positive psychological functioning among young adults.
